How this Basic Package works

A pneumatic piercing tool (impact mole) uses compressed air to drive an internal piston that hammers a stepped-cone / chisel nose through soil. Soil is displaced and compacted—not hauled out—so you open two small pits instead of a long trench.

  1. Aim and shoot. Level the tool in the launch pit with the magnetic starting level, aim at the exit pit, and feed lubricated air through the hose.
  2. Stepped-cone accuracy. The reciprocating stepped-cone tip helps the tool hold course and power through minor obstructions in displaceable soil.
  3. Quarter-turn reverse. Most tools in this class reverse with a quarter turn of the air hose so you can back out if needed.
  4. Pull product while you bore. Where applicable, configure the Basic Package for trenchless pipe pulling—PVC, HDPE, fiber duct, or similar service pipe—often in the same pass with suitable clamps/adapters.

Under good soil conditions, pit-to-pit pierces of up to about 150 feet can be economical. Actual distance depends on soil, grade, and product size—tell us your run and we'll help you size the model.

How a Basic Package works: launch from a starting pit, bore under the obstacle; can pull PVC/HDPE product where the job allows.

Who it's for

Crews installing larger conduit or utility services that outgrow a 3″ class tool.

Typical jobs: trenchless installs under driveways and roads for fiber, gas, water, and power—when a full directional drill is more tool than the crossing needs.
